libcod Documentation

I try to find some documentation about libcod (such as readme), but I can't find this. I mean, something about, what is libcod, why to use libcod, what is goals of libcod, what is difference libcod - classic script's. Can you please write some documentation or explain why to use libcod ?

Basically, Libcod adds new functions to your server, such as "getPing()".
It makes a lot of things possible, and you can add your own functions if you know how to write and compile.
