You can receive 'thanks' points by posting answers to people's questions, or just adding your insightful piece of opinion into a conversation. Each persons 'Thanks' points are counted up under their picture, and you can easily see them at the bottom of the light blue boxes beside each post.

Think of them almost as a 'like' button....except to get them here, you have to be helpful.

theres a counter on your nametag. you know that little box that has your information in it that sits next to all of your posts? theres a row there that says "thanks:" and the name row that says "Thanked _ times in _ posts". both of these tools are used to tell you your thanks points, one as a raw, whole number, and the other in a way that reminds me of hitting combos in a fighter style videogame. It measures how many posts it took you to get that many thanks.
