Hey all,

one guy just had a problem with starting CoD2 multiplayer in Steam.

Fix is kinda simple and can be googled already, but just for the redundancy:

TL;DR:

1. Go to Steam folder and copy Steam.dll (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\)
2. Paste it into CoD2 folder (Right click in Steam on CoD2 -> Settings -> Local Files -> Search local files)
3. Set Compatibility Mode to XP SP 3
4. Right click on game name and start Multiplayer mode
5. Alt+Tab out of game, tab in again (mouse cursor fix)

Point 5 might be fixable with IzNoGoD's finding (I haven't tested): http://killtube.org/showthread.php?1012-CoD2MP_s-exe-Slow-Start&p=11084&viewfull=1#post11084

My fix only fixes the non-continuous speed of the mousecursor (like your mouse is accelerating for no reason), not the mousecursor-not-focussed thingy you describe

Could the 60s blackscreen be caused by loading of the intro video in multiplayer?
(without compatibility mode)

I had to set the launch command +set com_introplayed 1 in order to bypass the black screen issue.

Just tried to start CoD2 1.2 with +set com_introplayed 1, but it still waited in black screen long as fuck (Win 8.0)

Thanks for testing. I knew it was a long shot, but it would have been nice if it had worked.

There seems to be a longer blackscreen when you use a too high value of com_hunkMegs (which doesn't exist in cod4).

* probably all equal load time
** it turns out that if you check the 'com_hunkMegs' value memory usage drops from 110 MB to 95 MB.
(tested on laptop with 8 GB DDR3 RAM and a SSD)

So on windows 8 don't use a value above 320. (when you aren't using compatibility mode)
